Hello friends!

August host of Brand Ambassadors' Spotlight is Kassa Hayselden and her theme is "atc’s/altered tins etc. - use your favourite Finnabair products". And I guess if there is "use your favourite products" in any theme or challenge, everyone is immediately happy :)

I often admire other artists' small projects, such as small metal cans or ATCs, but when I feel like creating a small project myself, I don't think it's enough. Strange isn't it? And yet small projects can be so beautiful. Creating these little boxes was a big challenge for me because I still wanted to add something, it was still not enough, too easy. However, I am very happy with them and something tells me that I will use such small forms more often.

Working with the new moulds is so simple. When I see them, I have so many ideas in my head. Today, simple ATC cards have been created. I used a lot of waxes again because I love them for all techniques.

I really like creating such small forms. Usually, in such cases, I choose a tag, but this time it’s something else. My mini project is based on a small slice of wood. I didn't want to paint it too much, so I focused on the composition. I used elements from the latest moulds here. As you can see, despite the multitude of large and beautiful patterns, each mould contains the small ones that work great both in small forms and as a complement to larger compositions. Black gesso and waxes are excellent when decorating these elements. It's always a perfect duo.

I like to create small forms of art – it’s a pleasure and some kind of fun to create a whole story on a small piece. This time I’ve created a mini 4”*4” size shadowbox using my favourite Metallique and Sparks acrylic paints with a little touch of waxes.

Modern Machinery 

Not so long ago I was demoing at an event, and I had my stash of ATCs with me. There have not been live swaps for a while for obvious reasons, so I had built quite a stash and thought to give the cards away there. My cards were happily received, but one person mentioned she remembered me doing a see-through card back in the day. So, when I read this topic of “mini art” I just knew I needed to do a set of transparent ATCs! 

I cut transparency to ATC-sized bits and then started to layer elements on top. First, I did a dimensional layer using White Crackle paste and a stencil. Then I added some medical tape on top – that is something I’m currently drawn as it adds a new texture to sleek paper or plastic. This cloth-like feel with ease! I then added some colours on top using Liquid acrylics. 

What causes a problem with the see-through surface is how to attach things and most of all, how to add the info to the back. I used brads to mount the Mechanicals in place. That way the back also looks intriguing, and the brad adds a little something to the front, too. But the biggest issue was how to add the name of the card and my info. I solved that by adding a little tag to each card and making it dangle from a piece of chain. It adds another detail to the piece while holding all the info that an ATC needs!
