City of Night mixed media project by Lori Woods

Hello creative friends! I've been having a lot of fun playing with the latest liquid acrylic paint sets recently but felt my metallique paints were being neglected so decided to use them for this months project!

I had some little chipboard houses that I'd put together for a project that I never got round to creating so I started to wonder how I could incorporate them into this project. By cutting them in half I realised I could use them on the canvas, adding some lace and other embellishments for decoration.

After a coat of black gesso I decided to create a galaxy effect for this project with the chipboard elements as a city in the stars. To create galaxy backgrounds I like to slowly layer the paint, watering it down to create soft edges, and building colour with new layers. This way you can create a look of depth and texture.

You can watch the whole process here:

Ambassadors' Spotlight - New Finnabair Products

When I saw the new real release, I was truly inspired by the colours and all the possible combinations the new waxes allow… that beautiful rainbow made me think of knowledge illuminating darkness, and ideas empowering women that bring light to the world. Very philosophic, right? But Manor House stencil took me to some centuries ago and I thought of all those ladies with brilliant minds that have been silenced by history. Find yourself, because the light is within you.

Hello Sweeties,
Today I have a tag for you. I just have to play with all the new waxes and believe me, they are all amazing!

To start, I primed the tag (21 x11 cm) with white heavy gesso. Then, I covered it with Carte Postale Tissue Paper. I primed the tissue paper with clear gesso and added a design with the Secret Letter Stencil and Pearl Icing Paste.
When dry, I colour the background with Burnt Sienna and Nude Acrylic paints.

Before glueing all the resin elements of the composition with 3D Matte Gel, I primed them with White Gesso as well as the Metal Blooms and the Woodland Leaves.

I painted the flowers and the moth’s body with Tiger Orange and the wings with Purple.

Then, the fun begins with the waxes.  For the flowers, I used Coral and Red Flames, and for the leaves, Moss Green and Acid. I coloured the frame with Black gold, I just love it! and as well as the gears.

For the moth, I used Celestial and Midnight for the body, then Sea Glass and Cobalt for the wings.
I used Honey to highlight all the details.

To finish, I added shadows with Ink Black, rust accent to the gears with Carmine and finally some glitter.

Hi Hi Creative people
Nature….sea…sun…moss…flowers…earth
These new colours from the new Metalliques Waxes by Finnabair inspire me with the colours of nature…Cobalt as the sea, the Midnight as the sky, Moss Green and Acid as the earth…the Honey as sunset, the Sea Glass as the sea everything inspires me so much….Plus the Secret letters stencil reminds me of a Garden in Spring.
With these new products, I created this ruined Gothic house using also some of the moulds by Finnabair
