Create Passionately – Mixed Media Journal Page by Suchijournalive

Hello, creative friends!

Today I’m sharing a new mixed media journal page created in my Finnabair Kraft Paper Journal. For this project, I wanted to enjoy the freedom of mixed media—playing with textures, colors and layers while allowing the creative process to guide me.

For me, art doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s about experimenting, following your heart and creating without fear.

Step 1 – Preparing the Kraft Page with Clear Gesso

I started directly on a kraft page of my Finnabair Journal. First, I applied a layer of Finnabair Clear Gesso over the kraft paper to prepare the surface for all the mediums and colors I wanted to add next.

I chose Clear Gesso because I wanted to prepare the surface while still keeping the beautiful natural kraft color visible as part of my background.

Step 2 – Stencil & Modeling Paste

Once the surface was ready, I added texture using a Finnabair Stencil and Modeling Paste. I applied the Modeling Paste through the stencil in selected areas, creating raised patterns and beautiful dimension while leaving plenty of the original kraft background visible.

Step 3 – Liquid Acrylic Carmine

Next, I placed a small amount of Art Alchemy Liquid Acrylic – Carmine onto my palette and added a little water. Using a brush, I applied the diluted color over selected areas of the background, letting it move naturally across the kraft surface and around the stencil texture.

I continued adding color little by little until I was happy with the effect.

Step 4 – Adding the Ephemera

Next, I created my composition with Finnabair Steampunk and Frost Ephemera.

I adhered the pieces using Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel, playing with the different elements and layers until I found a composition that felt right.

Step 5 – Coloring the Wings

For the wings, I used the new Finnabair Visions Waxes.

First, I applied Matte Faded Denim to create the beautiful blue color. Then I added Metallic Amber to the tips and selected details of the wings.

I love how these two finishes work together—the soft matte blue combined with the warm metallic highlights brings out all the beautiful texture and dimension of the wings.

Step 6 – Heavy White Gesso

Next, I added a little Heavy White Gesso to selected areas of the composition.

I applied it freely and intuitively, adding light, texture and an imperfect artistic effect that helps connect all the different layers.

Step 7 – “Passionately”

Then I added the word “passionately” as my sentiment. I love this word because it represents exactly how I feel when I create—following my heart and enjoying art with passion.

Step 8 – Heavy Black Gesso

Next, I added just a little Heavy Black Gesso in selected areas to create more contrast, shadows and depth throughout the composition.

Step 9 – Final White Splatter

For my final touch, I added splatters with Art Alchemy Liquid Acrylic – Titanium White.

The white splatters added movement and brought all the different elements of the page together.

Create Without Fear

Remember, art doesn’t need to be perfect.

Create. Play. Experiment. Follow your heart. Don’t be afraid to try new colors, add another layer or simply see where the process takes you.

For me, that is the magic of mixed media. Sometimes we begin without knowing exactly what the final result will be, but through experimentation and creativity, something beautiful and magical appears.

I hope this project inspires you to play with your Finnabair products, experiment without fear and, most importantly, enjoy every moment of creating.

Hopes and Desires by Szafranowe Twory

Good morning, Creative Souls!

Do you know what’s always the biggest challenge when decorating a clock face?

For me, it’s definitely the fact that the composition has to stay flat so the hands can move freely!

Flat, yet still interesting… and that’s really not easy

To meet this requirement and still create a beautiful clock, this time I used Fiber Decoupage - it gave an amazing effect in the background while keeping everything nice and flat.

Let me also share a trick on how to surround your main motif with a stencil pattern without creating any texture underneath it.

Simply cut out the exact shape of the motif you plan to glue later from another piece of paper - in my case, it was this Lady.

Place this cut-out shape in the desired spot, apply modeling paste through your stencil, then remove both the stencil and the paper “mask.”

The result?

Where the paper was placed, there’s no stencil pattern - just a perfectly flat surface ready for your main motif.

Do you know this trick?

Let me know how you like my clock in this version! 🖤

A Trail of Time By Lori Woods

 Hello creative friends!

Recently I’ve had a lot of deadlines to meet and it made me think a lot about how time changes depending on what you’re doing. Sometimes time goes slowly and sometimes it speeds right past you. I wanted to create a project with this idea in mind.

I started with a base and stencil. I picked out my embellishments- beetles for when time crawls and a bird and dragonfly for when time flies!

I wanted to stay in a theme of the natural elements so I decided to use various shades of green media.
