Strange & Unusual by Lori Woods

 Hello creative friends!

For my latest project I wanted to make something completely different. I had an old Halloween decoration on my desk and decided to turn it into a slightly creepy but sparkly frog!

I started by covering the body with some scraps of decoupage fiber to create a solid base. I painted the legs and head with Sparks paint to give a base coat of colour.  I spread effect pastes onto a plastic sheet and peeled these off when dry. These create great flexible media that can be cut into any shape you like. I cut lots of circles out to imitate scales and then glued these across the body.

For the base I used modelling paste to create texture and added air dry clay leaves that I bent into shape when they were still flexible. I coloured everything with paint and finished off with some wax to create a contrast.

Through A Lens by Lori Woods

 Hello creative friends!

I am obsessed with creating beautiful translucent additions to my project with Finnabair's Pearl Effect paste so I decided to make it the focal point with this project! It’s such a simple technique but it creates a stunning effect. Take a piece of clear film, I like to use old packaging film, and spread a layer of the paste over the size of the area you need. I like to press in chipboard shapes or other elements to create a complete embellishment, or you can simply cut it to the shape you need. It can take a little while to dry as the paste is thick but it’s worth the wait!

For the background elements of this project I raided one of my boxes of collected treasures so there is a lovely mix of old computer parts, screws, a paracetamol packet, chipboard leftovers and other assorted items. I attached these to the background and coloured everything with liquid acrylics to give a shabby patina look.

Dream Journal by Lori Woods

Hello creative friends!  I say this every time but I am in love with Finnabair’s latest release! The super versatile new sizes of decoupage paper, even more stencils and the absolutely gorgeous new effect paste sets- so many possibilities!

I’ve had my Finnabair denim journal for a while and could never quite decode how to decorate it so I decided to try out one of the new decoupage sets and Nightdreaming seemed like a great fit for a journal cover. I applied this with soft gel and the flexibility of the paper was perfect for an object that will get a lot of use.

I used one of the new Knots & Knits stencils and the beautiful Twilight Pearl paste toe create a shimmery background. I then layered up various mould elements and used Sparks paint to continue the dreamy theme.

I finished off with the Magic Potion effect paste to give everything even more sparkle and then highlighted around the elements with some White Pearl wax. A dream come true!
