What if... by Marta Lapkowska

Hello Friends!
Let me tell you this - you will absolutely fall in love with Marta's creativity - if you haven't done that already. ;)
Her project today is truly a treat - but no more talking, you have to see it!

Hello my mixed media friends,

It is so good to be back to you !
I know that it's been a while since my last video tutorial :) and some of you were asking me to create a new one, so here it is !

Today's project was inspired by super talented Janka. A couple of months ago she created an altered piece for Mixed Media Place. I loved it so much that it stayed in my head till now.

I decided that I have to use her idea of altering an unwanted food can. ;)
It was challening for me but I enjoyed it a lot.

To create this fantastic texture heaven I used Finnabair brand new Snowflake Paste.
And let me tell you, this is a wonderful medium to achieve rusty and corroded texture for your projects. All you need to do is add some colour !

To colour the sides of the can I used a mix of different Mica Powders from Finnabair.

Additionally, I used some autumn goodies - wild roses. I dried them a little before painting. :)

As my title I stamped some words from Finnabair's stamp sets.
My main focus is a girl cut out from Ephemera - Vintage Collectibles.

I hope you will enjoy my video. Be sure to share your creations if this project will inspire you to make some art ! I hope to hear from you :)

Hugs, Marta xx

Ultimate ARTifact

My Friends!
I simply couldn't wait to finally share this news with you...
I will be teaching full day classes during Art is You event in Santa Rosa, April 2016!

This will be my first art retreat on such a large scale and I just can't describe how thrilled and honored I am!
I will be soaking in the unique atmosphere of the event and I'll be so happy teaching some really special classes.
Not to mention the chance to meet in person so many wonderful artists I've been admiring for many years now... Lucky me!

Read more on Art is You website, you will see why I'm on cloud number nine. ;)
Click on this link and you will receive $20.00 off your registration fee!

So today I'd like to tell you about one of the workshops I will be teaching in Santa Rosa.
It's called Ultimate ARTifact and it's an expanded version of my ARTifact class. I taught it for the first time in Donna Downey's Studio and it turned out to be a hit among my students.
So I thought - why not taking it a step further and making it even bigger...? ;) Why not have more canvas, more space, more techniques, more creative fun?!

How about that?! ;)
I personally really love this class - creating light and texture is like going on a special kind of journey...

The techniques we use during this class can just as well be applied in your art journals, on altered objects and wherever your inspiration takes you.

So check out Art is You Santa Rosa schedule and I so hope to see you there!

I have one more piece of news for you today - that is announcing the winner of my Opal Magic Mica Powders giveaway!
And the winner is... drumroll...

Congrats, Sabine! :)
Please, contact us at store@mixedmediaplace.com I hope you'll find my magic Powders inspiring.

Perfume Makover

My Friends!
Today we have another special art treat for you - a superbly creative piece by Denisa, our new Creative Team member.
I know for sure you will want to follow Denisa's talent on her blog and make friends on facebook!

I love wearing perfumes as we all do. :)  I usually throw away empty bottles but some time ago I decided to keep some just in case I might use them later for altering.
So here I am today with my Perfume Bottle Makover.

I  started by applying a layer of Black Gesso on the bottles.
After drying I applied a thick layer of White Crackle Paste. I let it dry and crackle over night.

Next I glued down bits of Newspaper resist canvas with Soft Matte Gel and did some stencil work to create little stars.

I did some random stamping with waterproof black ink. I stamped with Don´t Forget To Fly cling stamps.
Then I used various mists and sprays in blue, gold and brown tones.

I glued the vintage photos from Finnabair's Ephemera pack on the back sides of perfume bottle caps.
I used a hot glue gun to fasten the caps on the bottles.
I attached some star brads and numbers from Mechanicals as simple embellies. I love them.

I also placed some Bronze Micro Beads and a pearl on the canvas.
I added a bit of Black Art Sugar and Bottle Green Mica Powder here and there.

I love using wires. So I twisted the wire several times and formed circles.
After fastening them to the bottles, I attached star brads straight on the wires.

Next I printed the quotes in black and white and stuck them on the caps´ sides.
As a final touch I randomly painted the bottle with gold Ecoline and voila here they are. :)

Hope you'll find my project inspiring and maybe look around your house seeing perfume bottles with the new eye. ;)
