May Ambassadors' Spotlight

Hello friends,

It's almost the end of the month, so it's high time for Brand Ambassadors' Spotlight.

This month's theme is "me, myself and I". Olga Heldwein, the host, wants you to focus on yourself. Below you can read her thoughts and see the projects by our very talented Brand Ambassadors: Olga Heldwein, Karolina Bukowska, Riikka Kovasin and Aga Baraniak.

Me, Myself and I was quite a challenging topic for me. As I rarely do “personal projects” This one also came in the month of May that is Mental Health Awareness Month and as a person struggling in that department I took that opportunity to make meeting with my patrons to be more personal about process and myself.

As the topic was so far out of my comfort zone I made sure colours and composition will be something that is very much in my comfort zone. Inspiration was also taken from Finnabair signature headpiece style that I absolutely love and was fitting here perfectly.

Project come out almost like I imagined and for sure will be ones of more mining full ones for me for a while . I hope You will find it inspiring and fun to take dive into that subject and I will be looking forward to your interpretations of it on our Finnabair and Friends FB group...  I would love to see your creations!

As I mentioned May is Mental Health Awareness month and we, as artists are often more than rest sensitive and vulnerable in that department and art, can be our form of self-help or therapy. So I would like to take the opportunity to encourage you to seek and ask for help and solutions and put up a good fight here with shadows and demons. And if look struggle with finding yourself in your art, or looking for ways to express yourself  I would personally recommend Anna’s Creativity whispering classes.

My life motto: You don't need eyes to see, You need vision...

Today  I want to show you the work which is my little self-portrait. It reveals what my likes are as far as my deepest creativity is the target.

See the colours I seek to find my inspiration. My little canvas is a mixture of gloss and matt, texture, and metal elements.

It may seem to be a bit surprising and unclear but it's fully mine and I share it here with a message to you: do not be afraid to express yourselves in your art.

Follow your hearts no trends. Charisma and authenticity will last forever, temporary fashion will not.

Today I have a personal post for you, in my favourite colours.

I filled the entry with sentences reflected from Finnabair.

I focused on simplicity and showing you my heart.

It's been so many years since the first painting with paint... and I still love art.

I have combined my private life with my professional life and as they say, if your hobby is your job, you will not work a single day in your life.

Maybe the unfinished is true, but he admits that I have the most beautiful work

I couldn't dream of a better one.

In the project, I focused on acrylic paints Impasto, Liquid and Metallique.

I hug you, Karolina

Tribe’s eldest

When my husband saw this, he asked if that’s a shaman or the eldest of a tribe. Well… I know the topic was self-portrait, but this was the piece that I saw in my mind’s eye after pondering about the theme.

Obviously, I wanted to do something different from my usual pieces. No canvas, no assemblage. Instead I made a little statue. To be honest, I thought to add some Mechanicals to her cape but after adding the patina with the waxes, I decided against it. I liked the clean lines with a hint of pattern and texture.

The body as well as the head and arms are done using air drying clay. I used a black or rather a dark grey version, but painted the head and body with black gesso afterwards. The hands are painted using white gesso. The patina on her cape is made using Matte waxes, Charcoal Black and Stained Wood.

While the outside of the statuette is mat and a bit worn looking, the inside is all shine and sparkle. The black cape has a midnight blue lining guarding a flaming red heart. I hung the heart to the left side of the head as it’s said that heart is on the left. The heart is made by adhering two hearts from “Tin Hearts” together with a piece of wire embedded in the adhesive as well.

Oh, that ruffle. If you’ve been following me for some time, I guess you know that I love black tea. Especially Earl Grey. The ruffle of the character is made out of dried tea bags, stitching them together and pulling the twine tight.
