Hello there lovely creative friends!
Today 'd like to share with you my new inspiration - a monochromatic mixed media canvas.

I experimented creating my piece with just one color and I wanted to show you how beautiful it can be to use a limited palette combining different materials, mediums, shades and tones.
I started by creating my background and building it up with various textures.
For this, I used some non-scrap materials or leftovers, for example the wooden pieces used to support a canvas and the 'negative' chipboard shapes.
Don't be afraid to experiment, add volume to your works by trying out different shapes that attract you, even unusual ones!
To create my favorite kind of texture I use Black Sand Texture Paste. This is such an amazing product with large grains that make wonderful porous effect!

Everybody knows that all the colors gain a beautiful shining quality when applied on a black background. As I love this trick, in my next step I covered all the elements I glued on the canvas with Heavy Black Gesso.

Then I selected the elements for my composition.
I want to make something light and beautiful to embellish the vintage image of an elegant couple. You can find a similar image (and more!) in Finnabair's Ephemera Collectibles.
I also reached for different Mechanicals and a chipboard frame.
To create even more beautiful texture and dimension on some of my decorations, I used a simple trick - I dabbed on some Rust Effect Paste.

Then, on to my favorite stage - painting and adding color! Like I said, I only chose a a couple of colors like Impasto Paints in Aubergine and Heather (deliciously thick and matte) and the Metallique ones in Dark Velvet and Romance Pink (for a little bit of elegance and shine).
I wanted my couple to be winged with love so I used the butterfly stamp from the "Don't Forget To Fly" set. :)

I added some lace for contrast and for accents, I chose my favorite Art Stones. They really are a terrific product that is suitable for any topic and project!

The finishing touches were added with the help of Art Alchemy Waxes (Aged Brass and Rose Gold) to highlight my beautiful textures. That's where the real magic is - simply add a light touch to your project using your fingertips or with a brush and you will see how all the surfaces begin to shine. I just love this process!

I invite you to watch my video and see the whole creative process. Enjoy!

I really like cold colors and purple is one of my favorite ones that's why I felt inspired to use it on my monochrome canvas.
You can of course choose any color that makes your heart sing. :)

Simply collect some media in a limited palette of your choice and don't be afraid to experiment!
Try out different shades and most of all - have fun and enjoy the process itself!

I hope you're feeling inspired!
With love, Olya
