Wild Geese

Dear Reader...
Take a breath, take a break.
Make yourself a cup of hot tea and enjoy Olga's stunning art and the way she talks about it. So very inspirational...

The first snowflake is dancing on the frozen ground. All birds flew away from these leaden clouds on the stormy sky. The evening is near. The pastel coloured sunset evokes a bunch of wild flowers with soft rosewood, blush and heather tints.

My very first step was covering the inside of a wooden box with vintage patterned papers using 3D Gloss Gel.

Then I painted almost the whole with Heavy White Gesso. The layer was rather thin and it lets the background be seen through. I used gesso inside the frame as well.

When the primer coat was drying, I randomly added the next ingredient – White Crackle Texture Paste in chunky brushstrokes. The thicker coat resulted in heavy and sloppy crackles.
Then I put some Light Paste in the corners and attached a vintage crochet doily cut in half, which was glued firmly thanks to the paste.
The last step was adding a bit of Glass Beads here and there which were also covered with white brushstrokes.

When the surface became dry, I splashed the background with tea to obtain an even and distressed look.
Then I added some tints with watercolor and pastel pencils which offer dreamy and soft overall effect.

For my centrepiece elements I chose some feathers, Type Writer Numbers, raw strings and a pinch of Mica Flakes.

I finished with sprinkling some areas with Micro Beads which were glued down with Clear Crackle Paste.

And then it was time to put aside my brushes and finish my cup of tea...

Have a relaxing and cosy weekend!
Olga

Faithful To Vintage

Hi there, my Friends!
I don't know if I ever shared this little 'behind the scenes' secret concerning one of my art babies... ;)
Well, you see, when you browse through my Ephemera packs ('Melange' & 'Vintage Collectibles'), think that many of the people you see there, are actual relatives of mine.
Fun fact? ;)

Today I'd like to introduce you to my husband's grandmother and great-aunt who inspired these vintage art journal pages:

You should know me by now and know how much I love adding a vintage feel to my pages and layouts - all using quite simple methods and based on a limited color palette.

I think elements of fiber art also add to the general mood and create unique textures and depths...
I can never resist bits of lace, tangled threads and all kinds of fabric frills.

Also - there's nothing better than tea or coffee to create these vintage-looking stains.

That's me - faithful to vintage for many years now and never getting bored with it! ;)

Sending you lots of hugs
Happy creating!

Just Breathe Forever

Happy Creative Monday, dear Readers!
How many of you happened to be so charmed by a single vintage photo that it inspired a whole art piece? It surely happened to me many many times. ;)
Today, our lovely Athanasia is presenting an extraordinary canvas inspired by one ephemera photo...

When I saw this beautiful vintage photo from Finnabair's Ephemera Vintage Collectibles I knew exactly what I wanted to make: a vintage canvas.
This photo evokes so many emotions for me, like nostalgia, romanticism and melancholy in a beautiful way and I wanted to include all these feelings in my canvas.

I started creating the background by doodling with a soft drawing pencil and used Clear Gesso in order to seal it and make sure that it wouldn't go away no matter what.
Then I made custom paints with Soft Matte Gel and Mica Powders and used them with a beautiful Lace stencil.
I also used stamps, Crackle Texture Paste and a few Art Ingredients to create various textures and dimension to the project.

The Mechanical Flowers  were the perfect embellishment for my canvas, I really love how they look there!
I also made a couple of paper embellishments with stamps and embossing powders.

You can watch the hole process step by step in my video.

I had a really great time creating this project, based on just one beautiful photo!
Maybe you will find your inspirational photo and create a romantic vintage project too :)
