Hello creative friends! Sometimes the projects I make involve lots of different mediums and take me a few days to create, and sometimes I just want to make a relatively quick and simple project! Finnabair waxes are perfect for this as they take seconds to apply, are permanent when dry and there’s a huge range of colours to choose from!
I started with an old tin and used a stencil to create the base background. I then started layering mould pieces on top- if I know that I will be adding quite a few elements then I usually do a bottom layer and gesso over this then apply the rest of the elements in a second layer. This way it’s easier to make sure all the underneath areas and awkward bits have some gesso on them!
Once everything had dried I started applying the waxes. I used Electric Violet and Emerald as base colours and then applied Indian Pink, Sky Glass and Acid over different areas to highlight the details. I like to alternate the direction I apply the waxes in to make sure I’m not going over the same areas all the time and it also gives the elements a different colour shimmer depending on which way you look at it.
To pick out some of the details I watered down some Brass Hardware acrylic paint and added this to areas of the tin then used Burnt Sienna liquid acrylic paint to create some areas of shadow.
