July 2024 Ambassadors' Spotlight

Hello hello is Vasilis from the hot hot hot Athens
Rust and patina effect paste always inspired me to use it in my projects so I created two projects in which I used rust and patina effect in different ways

Project 1

The first project is a small panel in which on the top I added two small canvases with moulds from Finnabair collection. First I painted everything with black gesso and I wanted my background to look like a story so I made a stencil. I mixed the rust and patina effect paste from the sets of Finnabair and highlighted the whole background with an aged brass patina. On the first canvas, I made the patina effect with the set of Finnabair for the patina effect and on the second canvas with the matte waxes. In this way, I wanted to show how we can create the patina effect in two different ways.

Project 2

The second project is a mannequin from polystyrene. I created the corset of the mannequin with stone paper, I made stencils and I made the leather effect with liquid acrylics...I added also some pieces of burlap and laces and on the top, I used white rice paper. On the top of the mannequin, I added some moulds in which I made the rust effect and in some details also the patina effect…In some spots of the mannequin, I med both effects. For the rust and the patina effect, I used the sets from the Finnabair collection.

Hello Sweeties

Today I'm up on Finnabair's blog with a new canvas inspired by this month's theme: Rust and Patina.

First, I primed the canvas board with Heavy White Gesso. Then, I added an uneven layer of Modeling, Light Modeling, and Paper pastes. When dry, I painted the background with Violet, Ultramarine, and Prussian Blue.

I added a design with the Machinery stencil and the Brown Rust Effect Paste. When dry, I rubbed it with Cobalt wax.

I primed the cogs that I've selected from different moulds and the Clock Faces with Heavy Black Gesso. Then, I covered it with Brown and Red Rust Effect pastes. When dry, I highlighted the details with Old Silver wax.

I primed the Grungy Succulents, the Woodland Leaves, and some other resin elements with Heavy White Gesso. Next, I used the Blue and Green Patine waxes to colour them. I added some highlights with Aged Brass wax.

I started the composition with the biggest cogs, and then I continued to add smaller elements. In the corners, I added a screw in each corner.

When everything was to my liking, I dry-brushed the background to tone down the color with white gesso as well as the design as I found the design too present.

To finish, I added some rust dripping.
