Art Recipe: Timeless Patina (part 2) - Archangel in Silver and Gold

Hi again, I hope you are ready for more of inspiration - just as I promised I'm back this week with part 2 of my Timeless Patina Art Recipe!
Last week I was showing my Prima Art Mediums in action decorating and painitng Metal Clock Frame. Today I'm adding more to the game with the inside composition - enjoy!

When my Clock Frame was ready I tried several options of using the space inside - photos of different sizes, altered object - finally I've decided I simply need to create dimensional composition inside, working directly on the metal back of the clock. Here is the result:

I've decided to make dimensional, full of texture construction with a face of Archangel on the top. This is one of the new products from Prima - Archival Cast Collection by Sandra Evertson. Check them out - great stuff!
You can see the rich, dimensional texture in the background - this is the effect you can get using Art Extravagance Black Sand Paste - the most grainy of all of them. Art Ingredients Beads and Microbeads glued with Art Basics Soft Gel made the look even more dramatic...

Gold powder on the to of the angel is Art Ingredients Mica Powder brushed on the top of the WOW Bonding Embossing Powder - great product with sticky finish. I wanted to work in very selected places so instead of traditional Embossing Ink I used Embossing Pen.

When the composition was ready and dry I placed it in my frame - and here is the result... I have to admit I love it!

I used colder tones of Silver and Old Silver Inka Gold paste on the top of the angel to make sure it will stand out more in the rich, heavy in details frame. I'm so glad this trick worked the way I wanted!

I love the final look - colours, depth, composition - it took me a while to finish, but the result is worth of every minute of work. Now I have an unique home decor piece I can put somewhere in my living room or decorate my studio.

Are you ready? Here we go with the part 2 of the tutorial!

And here is the whole process - step-by-step:

1. I took off the back of my clock and covered inside part of it with a coat of Art Extravagance Black Sand Paste. In the beginning it looks gray but dries clear with interesting, two-tone sand effect. I dried it a bit with heating tool and using my Art Basics Modeling Paste as the adhesive I added a metal piece I found in my "treasure boxes".

2. I continued the process using more of the Modeling Paste and putting together elements of my choice to create dimensional composition. The last element was the Archangel face from Prima Archival Cast collection.

3. I left my project to dry overnight. Next day I put a coat of Art Basics Black Gesso on the top of all: background texture, metal, plastic and resin elements. I dried it all with heating tool.

4. When Black Gesso was dry I took a small brush and applied a bit of Art Basics Soft Gel in the places where I wanted to add some extras - I sprinkled some Art Ingredients Glass beads and Micro Beads in two sections of my composition. I dried everything again with heating tool and brushed off any loose beads left on the project.

5. Next I mixed a bit of Art Basics Soft Gel with blue Art Ingredients Mica Powder to create small amount of custom metallic paint. I brushed it into the texture around the angel to add metallic blue colour and reveal the details. For the face of the angel I used Silver and Old Silver tones of Inka Gold Rub - I brushed a thin coat on the top of the resin element and also on some elements of the background. I wanted the colors of this part of the project to be colder than the outside frame, adding more light inside of the Clock Frame.

6. I wanted to add some gold Mica Powder in very selected parts of the resin angel - on the feathers and rays of light. To create this effect I used WOW Bonding Embossing Powder: first I used Embossing Pen to apply clear embossing ink just in the desired places. Next I sprinkled Embossing Powder on the resin angel and tapped off the extra on a piece of paper, so I was able to put it back to the jar. Next I used heating gun to melt the Embossing Powder - it created sticky surface I needed to work with Mica Powder.

7. When the Bonding Embossing Powder was melted i was able to brush gold Mica Powder on it to create super shiny effect just in the selected places. In a short moment the effect I was hoping for ready - gold feather and rays of light looked amazing and the gold didn't rub off!

8. To add a bit of balance and "golden touch" to the project I mixed a bit of gold Mica Powder wit Art Basics Soft Gel and added some highlights on the top of my beads and pebbles. My project was ready!

The very last thing I had to do was to put it all back in place - I have to admit, the frame and inside worked just perfectly together! I was very happy with the final result.

I hope you've enjoyed the project. Of course all of the techniques may be applied to other objects and projects - the sky is the limit!
