Hello,
If you enjoy a vintage feel with a touch of subtle rawness and layers that tell their own story, be sure to check out the tutorial on the Finnabair Art Files YouTube channel. There, I show you step-by-step how I created two cards in this style.
I used stiff kraft paper as the base, which immediately gives the piece a warmer, slightly aged feel. I chose a square format, and for the background, I used papers from the small Butterfly Effect set by Finnabair and 7 Dots Studio. They have great colors and subtle details that don't overwhelm the rest.
To create the composition, I added ready-made cut-out elements, stickers, and small HDF embellishments. I broke up the whole composition with pieces of old lace and fabric. They create a "soft" contrast to the paper and add a slightly nostalgic touch to the piece.
Finally I added texture. I used Art Stone combined with a soft matte gel. Once everything was thoroughly dry, I whitened my cards with diluted white gesso. This step nicely brings all the elements together, and the colors soften slightly.
Have a nice day,
Kasia Salmanowicz
