Today is my Creative Team day and we're meeting with talented Gayle - yes, she did it again!
A completely fresh, creative look at a familiar object that we thought we knew so well. ;)
Hello lovely Finnabair friends.
I know you would all have seen
Finnabair’s very cute, metal bird house frame before. Mine has been sitting on
my shelf, begging to be “adorned” and altered.
The thing is, I’m not
really a “flower” person so my ideas were a little more
“industrial"... so, my birdhouse became an abandoned shed. An old, work
shed belonging to a church, where perhaps a stone mason or metal worker
were kept busy making ornate tombstones or decorative, metal fencing to
enclose grave sites.
Old sheds can tell many stories and hold many
secrets, one always enters, never quite knowing what you might find...
I wanted to make some old metal drums. I used cardboard “inner tubes”
from rolls of plastic wrap, added some string for the ridges, coated
them in Distress Stain, and Art Extravagance Texture Paste.
Metal Mechanicals, chipboards and Prima Water Pipes were all painted
first with Art Basics Black Gesso, then with Copper and Gold Mica Powder
mixed with Soft Gloss Gel Medium.
Finally sprinkled with aged black
embossing enamel.
The inside back of the shed was painted with Art Extravagance Graphite Texture Paste, while the outside walls were collaged with graffiti
images.
The inside was adorned with metal skulls, chipboard and an
angel.
Inside details:
I hope you like my bird house frame with a difference. ;)
xx
Gayle

ReplyDeleteGayle,
ReplyDeleteYour old and abandoned shed is totally beautiful - the graffiti, old fencing, bits and pieces are perfect. I live in a small town in Illinois, a farming community and I travel the back country roads quite often. I always see a few old barns and sheds sitting abandoned and in disrepair and often wondered what was in them or what they used to hold. So, I love, love your most wonderful altered piece!
Gorgeous, the metal drums are a fantastic idea, many thanks for this inspiration Gayle!!
