A Christmas Spirit mixed media project by Lori Woods

Hello creative friends! I love Christmas crafting- all the sparkle and magical festive ideas but in mixed media projects! I decided to create a shrine to one of the Christmas spirits but instead of the usual festive colours, I went with more of a sugar plum fairy palette!

I began with an MDF house shape and added a card to create a back, sides and roof so that I could decorate it on all sides. I knew I wanted to use wings in the design and since it was to be a house for a Christmas spirit what better way to use them than to create an ethereal roof!

I decorated the outside of the house using vines and added small Christmas trees to create a scene inside the house.

For colour, I used various browns from the Finnabair range including liquid acrylics, rust paste and jewel paste to create a depth of colour and some additional texture. For the roof and small elements, I used a selection of plum/ purple paints.

A dry-brushing with white gesso helped to give everything a frosty feel and cotton wool added to a base set the snowy scene. The Christmas spirit was the finishing touch and this was created using more wing mould and coloured with Opal Magic paint which gives a beautiful iridescent colour.

I hope this gives you some inspiration for your Christmas crafts and have a video of the full process for you here:
