Mechanical memories by Kasia Bogatko

Hello,
for today's inspiration, I have a truly mixed media project for you.

I've used a great duo - black gesso and waxes. The base for this project is a wooden shape. To give it some structure, I used the Plaster Paste and Paper Texture Paste. All these surfaces became visible just after painting the whole with black gesso and highlighting the details with waxes.

The whole composition is made with metal and resin elements. I used beautiful Finnabair moulds that are full of interesting and unique shapes. After using black gesso, resin and metal accepts all media and colors in the same way, so everything fits together.

It was important for me to create the impression of many interpenetrating layers of paint on the frame that have "grown" over the years. This effect was obtained by repeatedly applying black gesso and waxes. You just have to remember that when we apply gesso to already colored artwork, it's best to do it with an almost dry brush and use a small amount of the product. We don’t want to repaint everything again, we want the color to remain in the hollows. As you will see in the video, I repeated the whole process several times, in the meantime adding some patine effect paste.

I hope that my video will encourage you to try this technique. Very interesting effects can be achieved in this way.
