Let's Go To Florence

Hello Dear Readers!

We hope you will feel inspired to capture moments and memories from your travels and express your impressions on canvas or paper. Or maybe you'd like to create an artwork about your dream destination? Either way, you will love today's post! :)

Hello there lovely creative friends!
Today I'd like to share with you my brand new inspiration - a mixed media canvas.
This time, I'd like to take you on a trip to the beautiful city of Florence. I wanted to express the atmosphere of Florence, its  unique grandeur and mystery.
For me, Italy will forever remain my very favorite country and the place where I'd love to live one day...
I created my project on a white background. To create some interesting textures, I used one of my favorite Finnabair products - White Crackle Texture Paste and Paper Texture Paste (together with the 'Honeycomb' stencil). It's such a great joy to be using these pastes, I love applying them and seeing all the unique results you can achieve.

To enrich my textures even more, I also added different sizes of Art Stones (glued in place with Soft Matte Gel).
When the pastes were completely dry and all the beautiful crackles appeared, I could start adding the colors.
I used yellow Lindy's spray and also the Metallique Art Alchemy acrylic paint in Pure Sunshine to create lovely rich color. I added a bit of Brown Mica Powder for darker shades.
I wanted to create contrasts and add some really unique elements, so I covered my chipboard embellishments with the fantastic Rust Effect Pastes. I applied them in layers and let each layer dry. This results in a cleaner and more contrasting color.
The wings from the moulds were covered with Heavy Black Gesso and then treated with Art Alchemy Age Brass Wax. I think the effect is simply magical!

To create a multi-layered composition, I took 7 Dots Studio stickers, added a few strips of News Print Resist Canvas and the most beautiful Mechanicalselements.
As you can see, everything here is really quite simple. My project is based on contrasts and a play of a variety of textures. Just like Florence for me - its charm is simple but elegant at the same time, with beautiful secrets hiding behind each corner.

I invite you to watch my video tutorial to see the whole process of creating my project. Enjoy!

I hope that I was able to inspire you! :)

Look for the inspirations around you! Notice the light, textures and colors of the places you visit and make them your own.

Sometimes simple ways are enough. Remember that you are unique and everything that you create will always be beautiful just because it's part of your story!
Just enjoy the creative process and never be afraid to try something new!

With love, Olya

  1. Beautiful layout! I now must check if I have sunshine yellow in my stash!
When I had the opportunity to travel to many countries in Europe, one summer, I still talk about Italy and the fact that if I ever had the chance to go back overseas and could only choose one Country to visit, I would choose Italy. I would love to live there too! I cannot wait until my girls are old enough to take them there! Thank you for your lovely inspiration and directions.
