Hopefully

Hello, my Friends!
First of all - some news.
Head on to Prima blog to check out Tiffany's fantastic artwork accompanied by a step by step and... Mica Powders giveaway! Good luck! :)

Secondly - Scrapbook.com put out this really great video in which you can learn more about at my new release: mica powders, snowflake texture paste and ephemera packs! Cari, thank you so much!

As for today, I'd like to show you a layout I created a while ago for a beautiful French magazine - Histoires de Pages. If you don't know this magazine yet, make sure you do - it's simply packed with amazing scrapbooking inspirations and our Mixed Media Place Team has a regular column there.

This “Hopefully” layout is the expression of my certain 'addiction'...
You see, it so happens that even if I feel I need some 'breathing space', some white background to start, I will inevitably end up layering everything I can find on my desk. :)
Old books, fabric, lace, doilies, paper cut-outs... most of them won't be even visible – but I enjoy the process of constructing, building, changing common objects into unique and artsy pieces.

I really had a lot of fun creating this layout and I thought I'd share a step by step with you too.
Here's how it goes:

1. The background for a layout like “Hopefully” is not complicated. I've started with creating clear resist effect using Emboss It Dabber to apply embossing ink through the stencil with a doily pattern. After sprinkling embossing powder on the top, removing extra back to the jar, I heated the powder and got great paint-resistant, glossy structure.

2. My next step was adding the color – I used liquid watercolors – Ecoline in white, green and blue. I sprayed desired places with water and applied my paint with a very wet paintbrush. I moved the colors to get interesting drippings.

3. I dried the background with a heating tool and made some more splatters – this time I used a bit of homemade tea stain and when it was dry – a hint of black Indian Ink.

4. I started to create texture with selected background stamps and Archival Inks followed with pieces of washi and tissue tape and finally – I created a multi-layered composition of doilies and paper cut-outs and thread. That was meant to be the most dimensional part of my layout.

5. I continued with layers of small papers, strips of canvas, lace, paper elements and the photo. I used some 3D foam squares to get even more dimension.

6. Finally, I added metal embellishments such as Mechanicals and pins and used a soft pencil to add a bit of final touches to my project.

Have I tempted you to play with layers a little bit? :)

I hope I did.
Here are the materials I used:

Sending you lots of hugs,
