February Ambassadors' Spotlight

Hello friends,

Nuneka is a host of this month's Ambassadors' Spotlight. Her theme is: Let it snow? Create texture with gesso: dry brushing technique. Our Ambassadors prepare projects to inspire you.

I love snow. Every time I add gesso with a dry brush to my projects, it reminds me of snow. This is one of my favorite techniques and Finnabair’s Heavy Gesso is specially good for it, as its thickness and whiteness make it so easy.

The inspiration for my project was the idea of a frozen angel, paralyzed by all that is going on in the world, forced to close his eyes not to see the wickedness and injustice, trapped in a spiderweb but with his heart still full of hope.

Sometimes the easiest projects are the most meaningful and precious to us. So let me tell you very briefly what I did. I covered the base with gesso and added modeling paste through one of my favourite Finnabair stencils and then glued a bunch of resin pieces made with Finnabair moulds and covered everything with gesso. I used Liquid Acrylic paints to add the first layer of colour, then a touch of Metallique Acrylic and after that a light touch of Mica Powder. Several coats dry brushing white gesso created the beautiful texture I was looking for. To finish the pro
ject I added some Art Ingredients such as crystal beads and glitter.

Gesso offers many possibilities, it is enough to use it skillfully whenever you want to create amazing textures, whiten your work, make it look like covered with snow, cold and forgotten.

Hello dear crafters

When I saw this topic from my friend Nuneka, I decided to create something in country style. So I took a wooden panel and with white gesso I created the wood effect. Then I used the Matt waxes ochre and stained wood to give a look like vintage wood.

Then I used a second smaller wooden panel on the top in which I create my composition. I used shapes from different moulds from Finnabair collection with decor clay. I create my composition ,i glue everything with heavy body geI, and I finish the decoration of my composition with metallic flowers and chipboards. I paint the whole composition with liquids acrylics like Prussian blue, burnt Sienna, tiger orange and carmine. Then I dry my composition and added a but of white gesso I used the technic of dry brush two times.to finish my project I used the matte waxes charcoal black, rusty brown and white pearl.

I hope you enjoy the result and are inspired by the amazing products from Finnabair collection.

The “let it snow” theme made me think about snow globes. It totally snows inside them! So, when I stumbled upon tiny empty snow globe shapes in a craft store, I thought to make one for this theme. Instead of adding water inside, I used the snow globe more like a bell jar to hold a winter flower inside.

The flower on the other hand is made using Finnabair Mechanicals. I threaded some wire through one of the bigger flowers and added a pearl inside to keep the wire in place. I then used the ferns to add some leaves to the piece and a couple more pearls to build some buds. To have the flowers rise from the snow, I added some white gesso to the base and while it was still wet, I then sprinkled some beads on top to make a crystal crust.

As for the technique of dry brushing, I added some gesso both to the flower inside the globe as well as to the decorations on top. I really like how it highlights the texture of the metal leaves and flowers!

Gesso is one of the basic media that we use in mixed media processes. This is the basis of the basics. Secures, primes, whitens and allows you to create textures. Today I have a project for you that perfectly reflects the possibilities of gesso.

I also used Art Alchemy Liquid paints in the project. I love their dullness and beautiful blurring. As a finish, I used Wax Metalic Firebird.

Hugs Karolina.
