Altered Spring Birdhouse by Aleksandra Mihelic

Hi dear sweet Finnabair friends and fans,

I hope you are doing ok. I had a bit of a rough months, a lot was happening, I had some health issues and I sadly haven’t been creating much. After some time, it always happens to me that it is so hard to come back. I want to create, my heart and soul can’t wait to pick up the brushes and paints and just have some fun, but my brains... oh boy! They don’t work! No inspirations hit me. Does it ever happen to you?

In such cases nature is my biggest friend and inspiration. So, although it is quite cold and rainy these days here in Slovenia, we did have some beautiful sunny spring days and I wanted to created something inspired by it. So, I decided to alter this beautiful birdhouse as a tribute to spring. I love spring, when everything is blossoming and nature is awakening. Which time of the year is your favourite?

Anyway, I do hope my project will bring some happiness to your heart and maybe inspire you to create something beautiful too.

I also hope you will enjoy the video I prepared for you, where I show you my step-by-step process for making this spring filled project. You can of course find it on Finnabair team youtube channel.

Have a nice day, enjoy your life and take care of yourself and your dear ones.

Hugs, Aleksandra

April Ambassadors' Spotlight

Hello friends,

This month Brand Ambassadors' Spotlight host is Iwona Marchewka. The theme is Earth Tones with Sparkle. We are happy to show you projects by our talented ambassadors: Iwona Marchewka,

I associate the colors of the earth with childhood the most.  Brown earth, green grass and yellow sand are the colors of my yard, where I spent all my free time as a child.  These colors are carefree, freedom, when the only problem was deciding whether to play hide and seek or play football.  Today's project is a summary of my childhood years, I created a brush in earth colors to remind me of this wonderful time. I added sparkle with Unicorn Mermaid and green glitter, which finished my project like a sprinkle on ice cream.

Memento Mori

I had so much fun making these cards combining earth tones and glitter! It was great to think what elements to put together for an earthy feel but still have the sparkle in there. I solved that by making an earthy background and added the shiny parts on top!

The new “Birds and Bats” mould is one of my favorites, so I wanted to use those stunning bird skulls as my focal point. To make them shiny I used a couple of the glittery looking “Sparks” acrylic paints and then coated the skulls using the metal flakes. Around the skulls I created a small composition out of Mechanicals, some chipboard and then Art Ingredients. While the two sizes of Art Stones bring the earthy feel there, then the tiny glitter flakes from “Luminous” glitter set add the sparkle.

The earth tones in the background are done using watercolors, tea and brayered acrylic paints. On top there’s stamping and several stenciled layers. One of them is using “Burlap” Impasto paint and others using Texture Effect Paste sets.

Hi loVelies :-)

So haPPy to be back sharing a little earthy tones & sparkly canvas, the inspiration, time spent in my garden :-)

I’m so very thankful that over here in the U.K. Spring has arrived.  Why?  Because Spring brings the warming sunshine &  along come the April showers too!  But what an amazing spectacle when we get the April showers on a sunny day, the rain appears to sparkle as the sun’s rays bounce off the droplets of rain.  I just loVe to tilt my head back & catch these magical droplets on my face...

Finnabair’s new release collection is just perfect to recreate the earth tones and sparkle prompt!  Teehee I couldn’t resist using quite a fair bit of the new collection too!  Gilding flakes, jewel effect paste, grungy mechanical embellishments, vellum papers & moulds galore.  I’m obsessed with the frame mould set featured in my artwork today.  Finnabair is amaZing at designing products in such a way enabling us all to easily create the most beautiful & intricate pieces like this frame.  If you could see my smile now you’d know how haPPy & over the moon I am with my little loVely frame...

Hugs Kassa xoxoxo

Topic earth tones with sparkle very much fitted into my love of natural elements used in assemblage. I i had an idea for project- nature collector box for found treasures.

I did prepare box of trinkets quite bird- oriented. I do love new molds and I like to play with them to get more dimensional elements. By paring up some elements I was able to make 3d bones and skulls that found placement in my box of found treasures.  Me element of sparkle was new jewel paste and some mica chunks captured in little jars.
